The Shirley Smith High School is a new school catering for 800 students from Years 7 to 10, built to respond to the rapid growth in Gungahlin, and opened its doors to the Year 7 foundation cohort in January 2024. The campus spans over 8,500m2 featuring flexible teaching areas, art and science labs, food technology learning spaces, a performing arts hall, wood and metal workshops, state-of-the-arts sports facilities with a double gymnasium, external covered hard courts and playing fields, a waste enclosure, and a bicycle enclosure. The construction of the school prioritised creating dynamic and adaptable learning spaces that harness natural light and modern amenities, fostering an environment conducive to effective education. These spaces were meticulously designed to accommodate diverse learning styles, including those of students with specialised needs, promoting engagement and academic success.
